Wrote this paper for Chris Straayer’s class on Film Theory at NYU, Fall Semester 2017.
I find myself becoming less and less receptive towards films in that “love-letter to cinema” genre that set themselves within the film industry. It’s a much more incredible, interesting feat to capture the magic of cinema through its relation towards other aspects of life.
Wrote this a year ago for a writing the essay class. The class sucked but at least I saw this movie.
Funny how it took the Maryland Film Festival to put together an amazing New York double feature. Dustin Guy Defa’s Person to Person and Alex Ross Perry’s Golden Exits make for such a magically incongruous pairing.
About one of my favorite directors and how his films capture the overarching loneliness of globalization and incorporate global economics and all that.
